J-Drama: My Boss My Hero

This is one of the J-Dramas I'm gonna tag as a must see. About 30 images under the cut!

Episodes: 10
Year: 2006
Starring: Nagase Tomoya, Tegoshi Yuya, Tanaka Koki, Aragaki Yui and Kashii Yu.
Genre: Comedy, High School

Plot: The story of a 27 year old gangster who has to go back to high school and graduate in order to become the boss of his gang. And yes, the show is just as crazy as that sentence sounds! This is one of those dramas that you don't have to be into J-Dramas in order to enjoy. It's a straight up comedy that has some touching moments as well.

Makky!

A nice touch (and maybe a possible in-joke about 20-somethings being cast to play high school students) is that the kids all look their age, and I think all the actors were around 16-17 in real life. It really showed off just how much older Makio was in comparison to his classmates. I also liked that it didn't have a typical happy ending, but I won't give away more than that if you haven't seen it. One of the good things about this drama is that you can watch it more than once, and still laugh at the same parts. A lot of dramas I've seen are good, but I can never go back and watch them again cos I get bored. (See below for random crackyness.)

Kazu's face! XD

WATER!

Worth seeing because: It has Nagase Tomoya. And I'm not just saying this cos he's good looking and awesome. :P (Please see below for handsomeness.)

LOL, the girl behind him!

This role could have easily become annoying and over-played if anyone except him had done it. He has great comedic timing, actually looks like he could be a Yakuza boss (due to his tall stature) and makes some of the most epic facial expressions ever. (See below for epic facial expressions.)

Tanaka Koki and Kashii Yuu also deserve props, they were just as funny in their roles.

I still can't believe Kashii was only 19 when she did this role!

You'll like it if: you enjoy comedies, stories about growing up, love and friendship.

You might not like if: You like romantic-angsty stories. This show is mostly about growing up and does it in a goofy over the top fashion. There's a little angst, but it's not really the show's focus.

Favourite moment: It's a tie between the second pudding team run (IBUKIIII! XD) and Yakuza "hide and seek".

Favourite character: Makio, lol. But Kazu's close too.

The theme song is Sorafune by TOKIO.
