I haven't bought any comics in ages!
And you know, apart from the odd graphic novel, and getting the new Ultimate Spider-Man comic via trades...I don't think I'm going to buy them anymore. I've never been a "buying comics for collecting them" type of person. The only comic I own the full run of is the new X-Factor book, which went back to it's original numbering anyway!
It's a shame though, cos X-Factor's the only book that has been on point month after month without fail, but comics as a medium is pissing me off too much for me to stay invested in them. I knew going in that I wasn't the target audience for either of the big two, but there were a lot of books at the time that weren't so obvious about the 18-35 year old male demographic. Now there's just too much fail on both sides (although I must admit, more on DC's side) and...well, to be honest, I don't enjoy reading them anymore. And who knows when Marvel will look at what DC's done, and decide to reset the whole thing anyway. Then X-Factor would be gone!
I'll stick to the films and cartoons. DC's cartoons are so much better than the comics anyway.
Random thought of the day: I don't like Superman's new film costume. It's like he's naked but he's not. XD
So cute! ♥ I'll be watching it after it's finished and subbed. Definitely need it after watching Joou no Kyoushitsu. (Will post about that later, but holy crap!)
Also, it looks like DC Comics is resetting/rebooting/revamping their entire line. Yep, everything's going back to #1, including the books that have been running since the 40s! Looks like I was right not to pick up Red Robin. XD There's not a lot of confirmed info about it yet, so I'll
Devon makes me laugh much more than he should. XD
I flipped through the Amazing Spider-Man issue that dealt with the aftermath of Johnny's death. It was a sweet issue, but *shakes fist* I'm still mad about this, Marvel! Johnny and Peter better have many shenanigans in the new cartoon.
They've casted Superman in the new movie reboot!
It's Brit actor Henry Cavill!
( He even has the chin cleft thingy. XD )
I thought Brandon Routh was a good Superman, so it's a shame they didn't give him another chance, but I'm sure this guy will be fine. The main problem with Superman Returns was Lois, she was bland, boring and whiny. She's just as iconic as Superman is, so hopefully they'll get an actress who can show that, and a script that does too. I am giggling slightly at all the fanboys losing their collective (expletive deleted) at Supes being played by a non-American. Christian Bale's Batman accent is fake, you do know that right? XD
Fantastic Four #587. Ships at the end of January. I may have to go to the comic shop on my lunch break to get it. The outcome of the book? I'm almost 100% sure it's gonna be Johnny who dies. They had future Franklin and Future Val talking about who their heroes were. It seemed like an offhand comment at the time, but Franklin said his hero was the Human Torch. Given that Reed Richards is his dad, I was very surprised that he said that, but if Johnny makes some heroic sacrifice or whatever, that would make sense. Ben's already died before, Reed has too I think and I doubt it'll be Sue. Johnny's been the least useful character so far. He's pretty much been Barney Stinson with superpowers. XD No matter what the outcome, I've enjoyed the current writer's run on the story so far.
I'd love to be wrong about this! XD But if it does happen, combined with all the other stuff that has happened in comics recently (and what's going to happen ;_;), it'll just prove that Marvel hates me on a personal level. Luckily, I'm not a collector so I just drop stuff I don't like. :P
Now, to whoever reads comics on my f-list, is Red Robin any good? I haven't read any DC Comics in forever and I like what I've seen of it so far.
I'm putting this under a cut, just in case anyone on my f-list reads Ultimate Spider-Man and doesn't want to be spoiled...
( The new storyline...I no like. ) I'm not picking up the regular canon books either. From what I've seen of it, I would only get mad at the end of each issue. It's like someone who was annoyed their ship didn't work out, so they break up the canon couple but can't make their ship work without seriously re-tooling the story, so they make up a random chick and every page with her in it is like SHE IS THE NEW LOVE OF HIS LIFE, DEAL WITH IT. I stopped reading DC comics cos they were writing stories that the staff wanted to see, not stories that everyone would enjoy. (Although Red Robin does look good...)
Lol, it's always ranty when Spider-Man is concerned!
Okay, so Spidey has been cast (Andrew Garfield) and I was pretty much like YAY cos from what I've seen from him he's a good actor and he sounds really passionate about the role and all around good feelings. ( Not really spoilers if you know the Spider-Man history, but just in case, there's a cut. )
Okay, rant over. XD If this movie's half as good as Spectacular Spider-Man was, it'll be a damn good movie. ^_^
I am still disappoint. (Spoilers will be blacked out, promise! ^_^)
( Ranting, raging and gifs. DAMMIT MARVEL! )
On an unrelated note, I was surprised at how strong Mabo is when I watched the scene in the 2nd gif! I've started watching Yasuko to Kenji, but that's for another time. I love it though! :D I also watched Doctor Who, and I swear I felt like there was something in my eye for the rest of the day. XD
All I seem to keep posting about is films these days. XD
They're making a live action movie of the Marvel Comic Runaways. Usually I'd be all STOP TOUCHING THINGS DAMMIT but this is probably a premise that could work very well in live action. The characters are really interesting, and would probably be a nice change from all the stuff that's aimed at teens these days. It's going to be an in-house production from Marvel, so that's a good sign, they've had a good track record so far.
The fact that it's quite easy to translate to film also makes it quite easy for a lot of mistakes to be made. Brian K. Vaughan would have to write the script otherwise it's not gonna be worth it. The casting is also really important. Since it is being made by Marvel, despite what's been going on with the comic books lately, I very much doubt they'll dramatically change things in order to appeal to the mainstream and make the fans of the comic angry in the process. I have a feeling they won't let Gert be fat though. Even if it's Marvel, it's still being made in Hollywood.
If it's going to be more than one film, they'd better shoot it fast. Molly's 12 in the book, so they may run into the same problem LOST had with Walt. XD
I haven't read DC comics in a while, and I had heard part of what had happened to Roy Harper, but I didn't know that they killed his daughter!! WHY DO IT?!
( Another comics rant ahead. )
*sigh* Does anyone know of a comic that's still fun? That's not Ultimate Spider-Man? XD Where can I get the funds to buy Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Storm and Wolvie from Marvel and put them in a book written by Gail Simone?
I leave the Internet for a few days, and I get information overload! XD Sorry if I haven't commented on things guys!
One thing that caught my eye was this new X-Men storyline that's about to start. It's advertising another big A BELOVED TEAM MEMBER WILL DIE thing, and if the Internet rumours are true about who it is...well, there's not an exasperated sigh big enough to be honest. Marvel seems to be on a big F- YOU, WE KNOW WHAT'S BEST EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT kick these days, so it wouldn't surprise me if they did kill this character off.
Killing beloved characters for shock value does not equal good story. It'll be a shock at first, but once it settles down, it will seem pointless. I don't know if I'm getting too old to be reading comics, getting bored of the focus being on the same characters all the time or if I'm just tired of comics pulling stunts rather than telling good stories. More and more, it seems like instead of focusing on making a good story that appeals to all demographics, they're just deciding to focus on one instead. At the end of the day, it is a business, and I guess they'll do what ever they think sells best. I stopped reading DC Comics because there were too many crossovers and the characters that had got me reading the books in the first place have completely changed, and not in a good character growth way. Or they were killed off. I'll probably read some stuff in trades someday, lol, if I ever figure out where I can jump in!
Luckily, the 4 titles I'm reading now are unlikely to have any of these problems as the cast are either well establised, all well written or have fun stories/clever dialogue so I'll stay interested!
Here, have some Tony Stark dudes!
Also, Another X-Men movie. Great. This'll probably be a pass for me.
Someone pointed out that Alistaire Stuart from the old Excalibur comics behaved a lot like (and was actually dressed very similar in his first appearance) to the Tenth Doctor. AND NOW I CAN'T UNSEE IT!
Stolen from ONTD Politics: Marvel comics for girls by girls.
( My reaction is under a cut...it is angry and it has GIFs. )
The gifs are not mine! ^_^ Sorry, I just need to get that off my chest before I take it out on a stupid commuter tomorrow.
It's been a while since I've made a proper post. Well, a while for me anyway, haha. Probably cos I've been going on the Internet less at work. (Cos 2pm keep making me laugh, but that's a different story for a different time!) Sorry if I haven't commented much on your journals f-list! It's mostly cos of the time difference. Nothing happens when I'm awake and there's like 40 entries when I wake up! Anyways, I thought I'd just do a small catch up on what I've been watching. Cos life is pretty much the same. Work, home, tv, funny random people and (expletive deleted) random people. I hate those last ones for all time!
This may get a bit long, I apologise! Warning: Much of me going all flaily over cuteness and cute guys, sorry. :P
( J-Dramas, K-Dramas and One Piece. Brook! <3 )
Some pics and stuff follow this cut!
( American TV shows: flashforward, Private Practice, How I Met Your Mother and Bones. )
( Star Trek, comics, Doctor Who and random other things. )
Lol, okay, it's over! XD
Okay Marvel, I'm gonna just give up getting upset about 616 Spider-Man books now, it's probably not very good for my health. But, if you're gonna keep going in this direction, then please make it interesting and just have Peter sleep with every single female in the Marvel universe. It's not like he'd be anymore out of character than he already is!
And I just found out (very late I may add) that one of my favourite characters in Naruto totally snuffed it!! :( Stop to be doing this please! I do actually wanna go back and read this manga one day!
Lesson learned today: Don't go reading up on things you've missed without having an episode of One Piece handy. ^_^
On a lighter note, this week's Venture Brothers was both hilarious and disturbing! I want to just keep randomly saying THAT IS A MUG! for no reason. XD
First tidbit: Randomly, I found out today that Roddy MacStew from Freakazoid is voiced by this guy and thus my 100th or so rewatch of Freakazoid will be so much more awesome this time round.
Second tidbit: The first two Excalibur Classic books came through the post (FINALLY) and so this weekend I'm gonna rewind back in time and relive the very big fangirl crush I had (have? XD) on Nightcrawler. Cos he's awesome dammit. :P
