gb23: (JL: Don't Touch!)

This film was friggin' awesome. And it had all the voice cast from the JL cartoon, plus Nathan Fillion as GL! It was a little weird hearing Michael Rosenbaum as Barry instead of Wally, but he made it work. Ahh, I wasn't expecting it to be this good and now I'm feeling like finishing my JL rewatch. I stopped halfway through season 2 to watch Batman of the Future. Which I also stopped halfway through season 2. XD

This premiered 20 years ago today. 20 YEARS AGO!

Okay, let's start with TDKR...

Spoilers, lots of 'em! )

And now Brave!

Once again, spoilers. )

I believe I won't be seeing any films in the cinema until The Hobbit comes out now. Unless by some miracle they release the Rurouni Kenshin film here!

- After having lots of little cousins over during the summer hols, I have unfortunately picked up a bad habit of speaking like Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time. (At least, I think that's her name?)

- I have seen The Dark Knight Rises, I will post properly about it on the weekend after I see Brave (finally!). I will say I enjoyed it a lot, but it didn't blow me away, which was a shame.

- I have a feeling IPKKND is about to get very intense, and not in the happy way. I will need to have some funny on standby.

- The Legend of Korra is apparently getting a movie, but don't worry, it's an animated feature!

- Ikuta Toma's getting a drama, yaaaaay!

I want to be excited, but I think Avengers has taken away all my flailing ability! Anne Hathaway is better in this trailer!
gb23: (One Piece: Ace Ride)

Day 23 – Cartoon you’d most want made into a (good) live-action film.

They tried it once, but Hollywood said the script was too expensive! XD I think this could make a really good live action film if they tried. Although I'm not sure the general public will be as accepting of a new Batman as the fandom was (it took them a while too, if I remember correctly). They'd do well to try and hire the people that write the cartoons/comics to write the screenplays too. Gail Simone's Wonder Woman animated film could've easily been the live action film for Wondy, it was good!

Danny Phantom would also be a good one actually!

Day 6 – Favorite animated series.

Yeah....I'm gonna have to cheat on this one. XD There's no way I can pick just one. In terms of overall production (story, cast, writing, animation etc) I managed to narrow it down to three.

All three here! )

Day 4 – Favorite Male cartoon villain/antagonist.

It had to be Mr J!

The great thing about The Joker is that there's no set way to characterise him. He's just gotta be crazy and evil, and you can go whatever way you want with that. That's why there's so many different versions of him (cartoons, comics, films) but none are wrong. My favourite will always be the BTAS Joker, Mark Hamill was great in this role. He was very funny, but also very evil. You never knew how far he'd go. I certainly didn't think his last appearance would turn out the way it did!!

Examples of evil awesome! )

I don't think any other version of The Joker will come close to this one.

- Halfway though Two Towers now (I know, it takes me ages to watch anything), and I forgot how much I loved these films. Unfortunately, having watched them so many times before, there are things that I will forever find funny that were not meant to be funny in the first place. Examples being "Gondor has no pants", The Lambas Bread Commercial and of course "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!" XD

- Batman of the Future. Even though the episodes were mostly stand alone episodes, I still love it as much as I did before. Old!Bruce is the snarkiest, and he would be an awesome/scary grandpa. I still forget that Terry's only meant to be 17. XD Maybe it's cos I was younger when I first watched it, they look more like college students to me. Of course, I only realised this time round that Terry and Ten probably slept together in the first episode she appeared, and they also implied that they tried to sleep together when she came back but he wasn't feeling it. Even though it was subtle, I can't believe they got away with that! XD It's one of those shows that definitely finished at the right time, but I wish we would get TV specials or DTV movies from time to time. I wish we could get Teen Titans DTVs too, but with the new YJ cartoon it seems unlikely.

- Saw a spoiler for Korra accidentally. Well, it's not really a spoiler but information about the characters on the show. Don't highlight if you don't wanna know! It seems that Aang's other children (Tenzin's older siblings) are called Kya (named after Katara's mother) and Bumi (named after Aang's friend). Upon seeing this, I'm convinced I'm totally gonna cry all through the first episode. XD Of course, I'm gonna see it later than everyone else so I'll be banning myself from the Internet until I see it.

- Young Justice is back in about a month. IT'S BEEN FOREVER! ;_; I make a case for this show all the time, but seriously, if you haven't seen it yet, now is the best time to catch up! It really is amazing. I thought it would be really weird having Robin as the youngest character, but it's worked out really well! He's super cheeky, I love it! When he saw Artemis (who doesn't know his secret ID) at his school, took a picture with her and said "We'll laugh about this someday", I laughed and squeed at the same time. I didn't think that was possible! Vid is here, start at 0:57 to avoid spoilers! He'll probably be my favourite character by the end, SO PLEASE DON'T KILL HIM OFF! ;_;

- I'm definitely hooked to that Indian serial drama now. Just when I thought no-one could outdo MatsuJun's longing stares of love! XD Speaking of which, I've started watching that drama he's in with Takeuchi Yuko and they're both so cute!

And now, videos! Including Jimmy Kimmel trolling Superbowl watchers, Christian Bale singing something unexpected, dancing dude advert and new Angry Panda ads! :D  )

Hey Arnold season 1 came in the post! :D

I'm glad I waited for an official DVD release instead of getting that "burned onto a DVD-R for $30" Amazon version. :D

I apologise in advance for the random Hey Arnold (and Batman Beyond, which I'm also rewatching XD) posts that will now follow, as things I didn't get when I was a kid suddenly become very obvious. For example, Helga's mum being an alcoholic/suffering from depression. :(

I know the show's been over for about 5 years now, but still, SPOILER ALERT if you haven't watched Batman Beyond (Batman of the Future) or Justice League. It really ruins BB if you know this before watching it.

I believe my reaction when watching this the first time was this:

I don't know how they got that pass the censors! XD I'm about 35% done with my Batman Beyond rewatch. Man, I forgot how good this show was. And knowing what we know now, it makes you watch the whole thing in a different light. I really hope Young Justice gets to run for as long as they want it too, and even have spin-offs/continuations. What I miss most about the original DCAU cartoons is the long history the show got to establish. (The cartoons went on for about 13/14 years so it's not surprising) As a Nightwing fangirl since youth, I was sad we never got to find out what happened to him and that we never saw him interact with Terry.

Old man Bruce is such a sassmouth though, I love it. XD

Looks good! I have a theory about the ending of this film, and this trailer kinda makes me think it's going to be true. I did have a little squeal thing going on when I saw that little flash of JGL.

They're going to reboot this franchise in a few years though, I don't know how they'll go about it. As awesome as the first two films were, looking back on them, they're definitely a version of Batman for the civillians kind of thing. The newer Marvel comics films have found a better balance between comics and what the general public will accept seeing on screen, so I wonder if they'll go in that direction.

But have you lot been watching Young Justice? *flail* If you haven't, you really should. It's so awesome. I really wasn't expecting it to be this good! For those who don't like comic book related stuff or DC Comics related stuff, this is the show for you! You don't need to know any previous continuity cos it's set on an alternate Earth to any of the DC stuff that has come before it. (There are little easter eggs all over the show for people who are familiar with comics though!) It has beautiful animation, great voice acting and feels like the whole thing has been carefully planned from day 1. I still can't tell (SPOILERS) who the traitor is going to be (I keep changing my mind all the time, but I'm starting to think it'll be Superboy) or who's going to get killed off. I really, really, really hope it's not Kaldur. It looks like it's going to be Kaldur but I hope YJ doesn't fall into the trap of black guy dies first. Especially since I want to see him develop into the awesomeness I know is there! ;_; I've usually figured out the plot at this point in the show! XD

I haven't been this excited to watch a cartoon every week since Avatar! It's very nicely filling the void until Korra comes on. NO MORE LONG HIATUS PLEASE! ;_; Although YJ has strangely put me in a mood to re-watch Batman of the Future (Batman Beyond for those outside the UK!). It's either that, or hearing Will Friedle play Lion-o on the new Thundercats cartoon. XD

Aww! :(

gb23: (One Piece: Not Crying!)'s been 19 years since he first played The Joker, it's been a long time! *feels old* I don't think any actor will ever top him for this character, animated or live action. It's the end of an era! I feel a little like...

While I may not agree with Marvel's decision to keep rebooting X-Men forever and ever, at least Fox is doing it because their license will run out if they don't keep making films. Warner Brothers owns DC Comics! The license will not run out! Why do it?! Especially when there are so many DC heroes that still have not been developed into films. And especially since Nolan's Batman films are some of the best comic book adaptations!

I saw the new Karate Kid this week, I enjoyed it! Not as good as the original, but I never got the feeling that it was trying to be, so it's all good. I also watched the new Batman movie, Under The Red Hood. Very cool! Didn't recognise Jensen Ackles as Red Hood at first! The new Joker VA was really good too.

Spoilers! )

Now, I haven't rambled (or made icons) about One Piece in a while, cos I'm aware it's all been kicking off and I'm very behind so I don't want to be spoiled! But this is where I'm up to so far...

Again, spoilers! ) Over 400 episodes, and this show is still kicking ass. :D

I'm thinking of a new Korean drama to watch. Has anyone watched Beethoven's Virus or Lawyers of the Great Republic of Korea? Are they any good?

Boy Meets World (Halloween Episode) [1-20]
ROOKIES [21-48]
Return of the Joker [49-68]
St Trinian's 2 (All David Tennant) [69-80]
Freakazoid gifs [17]

I am the screamer around here! )

Christopher Nolan's gonna be overseeing the new Superman movie!

As well as doing the third Batman movie. If it was anyone else, I would've assumed that WB were going with the whole Batman made much dollars, Batman is dark therefore we make Superman dark and it will make much dollars! Luckily, Nolan and Goyer seem to have a good balance of sticking to the overall feeling of the source material, while still making a good movie. I'm not a big fan of Superman, but I will safely assume they'll go for story over flashy-ness, so it'll be a good movie. As long as they make Lois the HBIC that she's supposed to be!

In other (facepalm inducing) news: Disney restyles 'Rapunzel' to appeal to boys. Or: GIRLS HAVE COOTIES SO WE NO MAKE MOVIES FOR THEM!

I'm pretty sure releasing The Princess and the Frog so close to Avatar didn't do it any favours. A lot of the more successful Disney movies had girls as the main characters, so I don't really see their point here. Boys already have most of the animation market to themselves! Disney movies are meant to be for EVERYONE not just a certain audience that people seem to think make more money. And whats's wrong with having something that's aimed at little girls?! I do wish more of the main girl characters were like Mulan and Lilo though. Miyazaki (whom Disney seem to love so much) has mostly female leads. One of his highest grossing films also had Princess in the title. AND WHY DOES THE MALE LEAD HAVE TO BE A "BAD BOY"?! Why can't he just be a nice, even tempered guy?!

Thinking about how much I enjoyed Star Trek, and how most people also really enjoyed it, I can't help but wonder if Fantastic Four had been done in the same sort of tone, would people have enjoyed it more? I enjoyed the first one more than the second (now that I've had time to watch them again and reflect), but didn't mind either really. I am biased though, Johnny and Ben are my favourite FF characters, I'm not really bothered either way about Sue or Reed. But I'm guessing the villains of each movie (Doom and Galactus[ish]) didn't live up to their comic counterparts? There was more of a sense of "this dude's gonna mess **** up!" from the Star Trek villain. Star Trek had that same balance of kick-ass adventure and funny moments that I always thought FF should have.

Or maybe FF would've been better off being more like an old school family adventure (in the vain of BTTF or the first Pirates movie) where you go in expecting a fun 2 hours and come out having been surprised by the interesting plot and clever dialogue.

I'm not sure if they're still going ahead with this relaunch/reboot of the FF franchise, but I wish they'd stick with what they have and fix what was wrong rather than starting again from scratch. Especially since they seem to be going with this whole darker = better approach. It's that kind of thinking that killed off/emo-fied most of my favourite DC characters but I digress! XD It also seems a bit soon to be rebooting it. I doubt comic book adaptions will go out of style so they can wait a bit longer to start again, and the recent reboots of Batman and Superman had about ten years or more since the previous film came out.

Kinda OT, I'm not sure who has the cartoon rights for FF now that the other cartoon got cancelled but I hope it's the guys making Spectacular Spider-Man and not the guys making Wolverine and the X-Men. They're both good cartoons, but I'd rather see them on Spidey's cartoon (which has been kicking ass so far).
